Our Team

At Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC) we strive for exceptional, equitable patient care that leads to healthier communities.  Our people and culture are our foundation, and we understand that to achieve our shared vision we must:  prioritize our people; provide exceptional patient care; selectively use automation and technology to improve patient outcomes and experience; and maintain financial stability.  If you want meaningful work in a fun environment, LSCC is the place for you.

Job Summary

The Associate General Counsel & Risk Manager is both a member of LSCC’s legal team and a participant in various clinical quality and regulatory activities, reviews, and trainings.  Day-to-day responsibilities vary from traditional legal representation to operations input and oversight.  A desire to “get in the weeds” with clinical operations is important for this position.  The Associate General Counsel & Risk Manager reports to the Chief Administrative Officer & General Counsel, works closely with LSCC’s Chief Medical Officer and Quality Department, and annually reports on risk management to the LSCC Board of Directors.  This position is hybrid and may work from home up to two days per week.

Responsibilities

The Associate General Counsel & Risk Manager’s functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing professional services litigation, including collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office, as well as board complaints, investigations, and responses to insurer audits and accrediting agencies such as The Joint Commission;
  • Handling subpoenas for medical records and witness appearances;
  • Overseeing LSCC’s professional provider peer review program;
  • Maintaining LSCC’s Professional Staff Bylaws, credentialing standards, prescriptive authority, and supervision/delegation agreement requirements;
  • Drafting, revising, and providing daily clinic feedback on clinical forms and consents;
  • Developing and delivering administrative trainings for clinical staff, including risk management trainings;
  • Acting as a liaison for clinic staff for routine and emergent risk management issues;
  • Overseeing provider employment offers and contracts;
  • Drafting and reviewing sophisticated contracts;
  • Providing legal advice on business, regulatory, employment, and compliance issues;
  • Reviewing and updating LSCC policies and procedures;
  • Assisting with LSCC insurance renewals, including drafting LSCC’s annual Federal Tort Claims Act deeming application.
  • Tracking and providing analysis of applicable federal and state statutes and regulations;
  • Managing large and diverse workloads with appropriate attention to detail on tight and sometimes conflicting internal and external deadlines;
  • Willingness and ability to work beyond forty (40) hours per week and outside of traditional business hours; and
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

The Associate General Counsel & Risk Manager shall:

  • Hold undergraduate and law degrees from nationally recognized and accredited institutions;
  • Be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas; and
  • Have a minimum of four (4) years of legal experience representing health care entities.

Key Success Factors

A successful Associate General Counsel & Risk Manager demonstrates diligence, excellent business judgment, and strategic thinking.  They can work both independently and collaboratively as part of a collegial, fast-paced team.  They operate with a high level of accuracy while gaining support for opinions and decisions through personal persuasiveness, negotiation, and forming alliances with other interested parties.  They establish and maintain credibility and trust with LSCC employees, the LSCC executive team, and the LSCC Board of Directors.  They build relationships with partner organizations, vendors, and key stakeholders.  They quickly master the requirements of Federally Qualified Health Centers, applicable Texas and federal laws and regulations, and industry standards and best practices.

Benefits

LSCC offers a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Competitive salary;
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance;
  • LSCC paid Life insurance;
  • LSCC paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance;
  • Paid Time Off; and
