  • Overview

    The Systems Engineer (SE) is responsible for effective provisioning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the environment. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners. Having multiple years of experience with enterprise level solutions is a major plus. This position will also be responsible for our future expansion into cloud services where applicable.


    Special Duties:


    • Engineering of infrastructure related solutions for various project and operational needs.
    • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
    • Install and configure systems that support our EHR and other company Line of Business applications.
    • Develop / maintain installation and configuration procedures
    • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
    • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for server-based systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
    • Acquisition & Deployment of new technology; such as datacenter related hardware and management solutions.
    • Support mission critical business applications running on MS Windows/SQL Server platforms including but not limited to NextGen Electronic Health Records, Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, the Microsoft System Center suite, and Great Plains Accounting.
    • Implement policies, procedures, and technologies (including firewalls) to ensure secure Windows system security through secure system access, monitoring, control, and routine security evaluations following best-practices for maintaining regulatory compliance.
    • Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage.
    • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all Windows Server platforms and systems.
    • Support application and operations teams throughout project lifecycles.
    • Ensure secure user access and role validation processes.
    • Remain informed on laws, trends, and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices; advise, counsel, and educate executive and management teams on their relative importance.
    • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
    • Develop, document, and maintain Windows System training materials and systems documentation for educating end users and new IT staff.
    • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.

    • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree Computer Science OR equivalent years of related work experience
    • Minimum of four (4) years related work experience




    • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or at least 5 years equivalent work experience.
    • Certifications in Microsoft Windows (MCSA/MCSE), and/or Cisco networking (CCNA)
    • Minimum of four (4)+ years’ experience with Microsoft Windows Administration environment supporting 500+ users
    • Minimum of four (4)+ years’ experience with Group Policies: Software, Security and support of remote users via remote access technologies
    • Minimum of two (2)+ years’ experience with various server roles; IIS, SFTP, Distributed File Systems
    • Minimum of two (2)+ years working with an enterprise grade solution such as Exchange, System Center Configuration Manager or VMware ESX
    • Experience building and maintaining systems including: Remote OS installation, Bare Metal Configuration and deployment.
    • Must have practical exposure to storage and data management products, Intel based servers and storage and NAS/SAN technologies.
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
    • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills
